Average quiz score 19%. Nineteen fucking percent? Now I’m really scared to go out there.
For the record, it’s been 35 years since I took the written test. And I wouldn’t bother with taking the test unless you have a really high threshold of boredom. I would think most if not all Opponauts can at least meet my 90%. It’s just not that hard.
Nineteen percent? Makes me proud to be an American.

Man, I don’t even have a driving licence, have never taken a driving test, live in a RHD country and I got 87%. 19% is bloody atrocious.

Tests like this aren’t that great of a gauge of “how good of a driver are you?” More a gauge of “have you learned the signage rules?”
I think the driver test should be a trip to your local circuit and exercises on a wet skid pad. Want to pass? Beat the target time. At least we might measure ability to drive a car.

That's a little much but I'm totally for regular retesting (every 5 years). Every 2 years for people over 67

I got 85% ... I live in Belgium, English isn’t my first language and road signs aren’t the same.
How the hell all you americans are still alive if there is that much people going around not knowing shit about the basics of driving a car ?!

That’s pretty much it. But how can you miss questions like “what does this sign that says NO PASSING ZONE mean”?
As long as The Stig doesn’t set the time, I approve of your plan.

As a non-American, I failed the broken white lines and stop signs on a highway bits and had to do some double takes.
Then I saw the 19% . I hadn’t even read on before, so it hit me like a truck.
You drive on the roads of a country that anwers
4 out of 5 questions wrong

Maybe we need to replace road signs with text messages. Would that make people pay attention?
Yes, I’m replying to myself. Never mind the muttering old man.

Damn it. I only got 82%. I missed a couple I shouldn’t have, if I had thought a bit longer I would have gotten them.
There are also a few very poorly worded questions.

The impressive bit is that if you picked an answer randomly in a 50/50 scenario, you’d still score higher. :?

No, yellow broken lines, some harder to understand questions (lack of proper vocabulary in english) and something about a sign you can encounter on the highway where the correct answer was “a stop sign”.

Thanks. I missed the average stopping distance and the question about black and white signs.
The average stopping distance has way too many variables to be legit to me and I won’t apologize for not knowing government speak for the word for a type of sign. I think it’s more important I know what the sign itself means.

I think the 19% average is due to people starting the test and closing the test page after 2 or 3 questions because they don’t really give a fuck. Therefore the result of these people is counted as 5 out 10% score...
People in general are stupid, but not THAT stupid...

I don’t live in the US, I haven’t taken my theoretical driving test yet, I don’t know how to convert feet into metres, and I still managed to achieve a 79% score by using nothing but common sense. Something is broken with the people responsible for that average.

You are correct that the larger problem is that their average score is only 19%.
This is why we can’t have nice things.

That is fricking amazing that most people have no clue. The only one I missed was the stopping distance. But I buy better brakes and tires and probably have a better reaction time.

79% some of those are dumb putting healights on 60 min before sunset doesnt make me a bad driver.l I guess not knowing the rule might. some of those I just was never trained on. who the heck gets a score so low the average is 18%¿

as much as I hate europeans telling us how to do things I think you have a point. but to be fair getting a drivers license is much easier with less training. pretty sure I was never taught what yello dashed lines in road meant.

Apparently it means including reaction times. But once again that's super variable person to person and cars. I know it says average but average what? A 25 y/o paying attention is still going to react quicker than a 65 y/o. How many people did they test? What was the sampling? What kind of cars? A corvette will stop better than a Pilot.

I know! and what person can even use that information some kind of android who can tell track how many feet the car in front is or can even comprehend howthat distance. also what about the condition of the car? some dingus with poorly adjusted or operating brakes.

The stop sign got me as well ... I usually understand the highway as something akin to an Autobahn, so it felt wrong to pick the stop sign.
I did my best guesswork regarding the values specified in feet. It did not go well.

79% here. 39 questions, 8 wrong, 31 correct.
Some things I didn’t know was a ‘library crossing sign’, I’m surprised that’s a thing.
How far you need to continuously indicate before turning (100 feet).
Two cars come to an intersection at the same time, one intending to turn left, one to turn right. The car on the left must allow the car on the right to turn right first. I don’t think that’s a thing in the U.K.
Four questions relating to stop signs. Are stop signs such an issue in the U.S.?
